Fraud Victimization or Identity Theft

Fraud protections begins by:

  • Never assuming a friendly voice belongs to a friend.
  • Never giving your credit card, checking account or social security number to an unknown caller for any reason.
  • Avoid giving out your Social Security number. If businesses or utilities insist, suggest using just the last four digits, or an alternate ID code.
  • Cross out social security and credit card numbers on pay stubs and bills before throwing them away. A better strategy is to shred these documents.
  • Check your credit-card statements for purchases you didn't make. Report any sign of fraud immediately to credit card companies.
